Next week (23-27th June) the entire Sci-Envy Team are working together along with bug enthusiast Katie Miller to celebrate Insect week, an annual event put on by the Royal Entomological Society and partner organisations to encourage people of all ages to learn more about the insects all around them.

With over one million species of insects have been worldwide and more than 24,000 species in the UK alone, we can find insects in almost everywhere. They can be pollinators, predators, pests, parasites and prey and their study is an important part of conservation, food production, medicine and ecology.

In the coming week we will be bringing you a series of articles about insects with topics ranging from bugs in the lab to bugs in your own garden. Regardless of how much you love or are apprehensive of Insects, this week should have something that everyone can enjoy.

Monday: Flies in research by Katie Miller

Tuesday: How to encourage beneficial insects into your garden by Peggy McGroary

Wednesday: The reclassification and evolutionary history of insects by Paula Gardner

Thursday: The Black Soldier Fly by Caitlin Dye

Friday: Pests found on a vegetable patch by Kate Dewally

Please catch up with us every day next week to learn something new and celebrate the vital role that Insects play in the world around us!
